How to Prune Trees & Shrubs
Daemon Coughlin, an outdoor specialist at Oakridge Nursery & Landscaping, shows you how to properly prune your trees and shrubs, and shows you when it’s time to grab you pruning shears out of storage.
- Trees grow from the tips out. Always prune your bottom branches up to get your canopy height where you want it.
- Clip your branches directly next to the trunk, avoiding stubs, to help prevent disease and insect infestation.
- Use a long pair of pruning shears.
- Remove ends of branches that are sticking out past the desired shape of your plant.
